Atresmedia announced a revision to its broadcast calendar that touches two highly anticipated productions. The previously planned Great Leap Forward, scheduled for November, will not headline the lineup. Instead, the broadcaster highlights the premiere of The Shadow of the Earth on Atresplayer, scheduled for November 24. The series, adapted from Elvira Mínguez’s novel of the same title, was written and directed by the author herself and produced in collaboration with Fonte Films. Set in a quiet rural town, the drama centers on how personal conflicts and power dynamics shape the lives of residents and pull neighbors toward competing loyalties. The central thread follows the evolving relationship between Garibalda and Atilana, two principal figures whose opposing roles illuminate the town’s social tensions and the pressure of tradition meeting ambition.
Shadow of the Earth features a notable cast, led by Adelfa Calvo as Garibalda and María Morales as Atilana, two women positioned on opposite sides of the town’s social fabric. The ensemble also includes Carmelo Gómez, Marcos Ruiz, Ginés García Millán, and other acclaimed performers. The series comprises four fifty-minute episodes and is an Atresplayer Original produced by Fonte Films, with writing and direction credited to Elvira Mínguez. The production crafts a grounded, rural atmosphere and emphasizes character-driven storytelling, blending intimate conversations with broader community dynamics as the characters confront loyalty, power, and the weight of collective memory.
Coinciding with the Shadow of the Earth announcement, the communications group paused the premiere of The Big Jump, a series about gymnast Gervasio Deferr that had been scheduled for November 17. The project stars Óscar Casas as Deferr and traces the athlete’s journey through some of his most defining moments, from Olympic triumphs to darker personal years. The biopic is described as five fifty-minute episodes and is based on Deferr’s own biography. Filming took place in various locations across the Barcelona province to recreate both the athlete’s sporting milestones and his personal development. The show was created by José Rodríguez and partners Deferr’s life with a broader exploration of what makes a champion endure the public gaze. Source: Atresmedia press release.
