Only a professional gemologist can distinguish a diamond from cubic zirconia, since visually both stones can have similar characteristics (color, cut, weight (size) and clarity). Elena Rakutina, an expert of the SOKOLOV jewelry holding, told socialbites.ca about this.
“It is always better to buy diamond jewelery from a reliable manufacturer who can provide warranty and certification for the stone from independent reputable gemological laboratories such as GIA or AGS. “The presence of such a certificate means that the diamond has the real quality declared by the seller,” the expert began.
He also called for attention to four characteristics: clarity, colour, weight and cut.
“The higher the values of these parameters, the higher the quality and cost of the diamond. Diamonds are available in colorless, colored (yellow, pink, blue, green) and all traditional cuts, the most popular being circle, princess and heart. Traditionally, diamond jewelry is made of gold and platinum, but silver is also used,” concluded Elena Rakutina.
