Dermatocosmetologist Rosa Gerliani, in a conversation with socialbites.ca, talked about seven mistakes that cause lips to age after 30 years.
Gerliani cited lip licking as the first reason. According to the expert, such a habit can cause skin peeling, cracks and a feeling of tension.
“It’s all about the microbiota. The amount of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract can cause dry lips and even cheilitis (seizure). And together with saliva, these bacteria easily reach the lip area,” explained the dermatocosmetologist.
Wrong make-up and incorrectly selected cosmetics can also cause aging. For example, long-lasting lipsticks often have a drying effect on the skin of the lips.
Gerliani recommended applying products with SPF to the skin of the lips during the summer months and when on vacation in hot regions, as ultraviolet radiation has a detrimental effect on collagen and elastin in the skin. The doctor noted that this causes premature wrinkles and photoaging.
Gerliani added that chapped lips in the autumn-winter period is one of the factors of premature aging. Therefore, in the autumn-winter period, it is important to use nourishing balms with dense texture and oil in their composition to protect the skin from cold and wind.
Gerliani noted that it is important to get rid of bad habits to preserve young lip skin.
“No matter how ordinary it sounds, smoking causes premature aging of the skin and the formation of wrinkles in the lip area. It’s all about the nicotine and tar contained in tobacco smoke. “After entering the body, toxins turn into free radicals, triggering cell mutation and contributing to their aging,” shared the doctor.
Gerliani named the last reason for premature aging of lips as lack of exfoliation. She suggested exfoliating your lips by exfoliating them.
“This activates nutritional and metabolic processes in the skin, improving the texture and color of the lips,” the dermatocosmetologist concluded.
