Scottish Fold cat breed is the most popular among Russian residents. This is stated in a study obtained by socialbites.ca from the Lapka service on the care of pets and their owners.

According to the results of a survey of 35 thousand people, the majority of cat owners in Russia (55% of respondents) have pets of no specific breed. 45% of respondents live with purebred cats and female cats.

The most popular breed among Russians is the Scottish Fold; 7% of the respondents have this type of cats. In second place (5%) is the British Shorthair. 4 percent of Russians preferred Maine Coons, 3 percent preferred Sphynx cats, and 2 percent preferred Bengal cats. Also in the top 10 were Scottish Straight, Don Sphynx, Siberian, Abyssinian and Thai cats.

“The rarest cat breeds include the Sokoke, Ural Rex, Karelian Bobtail, American Polydactyl, Minskin, Ragamuffin and Kanaani,” the study says.

73% of dog owners keep purebred animals. The most popular dog among Russians was the Pembroke Welsh Corgi; 6% of survey respondents live with these dogs. Second place was shared between Chihuahua and French Bulldog with 5%. Third place and 4% belongs to the Pomeranian Spitz, the same amount belongs to the Yorkshire Terrier. Also in the top ten were Jack Russell Terrier, Shiba Inu, Siberian Husky, Labrador Retriever and Beagle.
