Caffeine, vitamin P, green tea, menthol and aloe extracts are substances that remove excess fluid and help reduce facial swelling. Svetlana Studenikina, dermatocosmetologist of the Likato Professional brand, told socialbites.ca.

“Caffeine – activates the microcirculation of blood vessels, has a strong anti-edema effect. Green tea extract – helps reduce swelling by accelerating metabolic processes. Ginkgo biloba extract tones the skin, eliminates dark circles, removes excess fluid. Aloe extract reduces puffiness due to its lifting effect. Dextran, escin, vitamin P and menthol also effectively combat edema,” said the doctor.

According to Studenikina, edema often appears due to disruptions in the functioning of internal organs: diseases of the cardiovascular and endocrine systems, kidneys, venous, allergic, lymphostatic and skin diseases.

“These are also frequent companions of pregnancy associated with changes in hormonal levels. Also, swelling can occur due to lack of sleep, malnutrition and non-compliance with the drinking regime. Alcohol, salty, spicy and fried foods retain water in the body,” explained the doctor.

The beautician added that swelling can also be caused by the wrong choice of care and decorative cosmetics.

“The appearance of puffiness around the eyes can be triggered by dense, oily, nourishing tissues or creams with a high content of peptides not designed for the orbital area,” he explained.

Formerly a doctor named the ratio of retinol content in the anti-aging cream.
