Drunk American tourists spent the night at the Eiffel Tower. It has been reported New York Post.
The sleeping men were discovered by security guards making morning rounds before the Eiffel Tower’s opening at 9am. Tourists slept in an area normally closed to the public between the tower’s second and third floors.
“The men were apparently stuck inside because they were drunk,” Paris prosecutors told AFP.
Later, a police source told reporters that the men bought tickets for the Eiffel Tower around 10:40 pm. The next morning, when the guards found them, they jumped over the safety barriers and tried to descend from the tower’s upper platform, which was about 275 meters high. Security guards sought help from firefighters, including a special unit, to rescue people from dangerous heights. Both men were taken to the police station in the seventh district of Paris for questioning.
Sete, the Eiffel Tower’s management company, said it plans to file a criminal complaint against the perpetrators this week, as the incident delayed the tower’s opening to visitors by nearly an hour.
