Stress, anxiety and nervous tension can cause serious problems in the teeth and gums. Dentist Asya Gabueva told socialbites.ca about this.

“When a person is nervous, the body releases the stress hormone cortisol. It affects the composition of saliva, increasing the level of acidity, which leads to the accelerated development of caries, stomatitis and other oral diseases. Also, stress can worsen the condition of the gums, cause periodontitis, gingivitis and periodontal disease, which can lead to tooth loss, ”explained the doctor.

The dentist added that muscle tension arises in the mouth when under stress, which can lead to bruxism – the involuntary clenching and grinding of teeth during sleep.

“Bruxism is a fairly common problem, fraught with various diseases of the oral cavity and problems with the TMJ (temporomandibular joint), and it is difficult to treat,” the doctor warned.

Although stress is an inevitable part of life, Asya Gabueva advised us to remember how it affects our health and take precautions to avoid it.

“Keep a proper daily routine, take care of your health, and don’t forget about regular visits to the dentist. So you can avoid many problems with your teeth and gums while maintaining a beautiful, healthy smile for many years,” he summarized.

Earlier Dentist Losev said about the wounds people inflict on themselves with toothpicks.
