Career guidance counselor, career consultant and happiness expert Victoria Virta told socialbites.ca how career guidance can help people over 40 and find what they are looking for.

Victoria Virta highlighted among the main reasons why people begin to search for themselves: parental interference in choosing a profession in their youth and life circumstances. The expert added that for women, self-discovery is often associated with the period of motherhood, during which time seems to be lost and it is no longer clear how to enter the profession.

As Virta points out, career guidance helps you understand your career path and understand yourself.

“For adults, career guidance is often needed not to find a profession, but to understand oneself: to understand that the whole previous life was not a mistake, and the first choice was not an accident. Before changing your life, weigh the pros and cons,” the expert advises.

Virta also advised those who want to change their profession to contact a career counselor.

“Once you have decided on a career path, I recommend that you hire a career counselor in your chosen field, not just to create a resume, but to better understand how to enter this profession, how to go through the career stages, what you can expect from the new job and what competencies are lacking at each stage,” the expert explained.

According to Virta, after consulting and searching for vacancies, you need to create several resumes that highlight the advantages of each answer and write concise cover letters that reflect why you are interested in each option. The expert recommended that you calmly do the test task or other tests.
