We are all used to eating rolls with soy sauce, but this is not the only option for serving this Japanese dish. Lyudmila Rumyantseva, chief technologist of the sushi and roll distribution network “Mnogo Salmon”, told socialbites.ca about five types of sauces that can be ordered with your favorite Japanese dishes.
“Hazelnut sauce for starters. It goes well with rice and seafood, so it’s ideal for rolls. It’s made mainly from walnuts, with the addition of parsley and garlic,” the expert said.
He also suggested pairing the sushi with Unagi sauce.
“This dark and chewy sauce has a sweet and salty taste. It is best suited for eel rolls. It also perfectly covers the fishy smell, so if you are not a fan of this flavor, Unagi sauce will be an ideal option for you with sushi,” Rumyantseva added.
The technologist also outlined an alternative to soy sauce.
“Tamari is very similar to soy sauce, but less salty and thicker. It also has no added wheat, making it a great solution for people with gluten intolerance,” she said.
In conclusion, Lyudmila Rumyantseva also suggested two sauces.
“Miso Paste is a thick paste made by fermenting soybeans. It has a salty and pleasantly sour taste. Miso paste can be eaten as a roll after diluting it with a little water. Kimchi sauce also comes from Korean cuisine. It combines red pepper, ginger, chili and gochujang paste. Kimchi will be a great alternative to soy sauce for those who like spicier sauces,” concluded the technologist.
