After almost 30 years, Mortal Kombat 2 source code has been leaked to the network and this is what they found there (fatals extracted and not only)

Almost 30 years after the release of the iconic fighting game Mortal Kombat 2 has leaked the game’s source code, which is now in the public domain. Observant enthusiasts have already been able to find interesting chips in it.

The Mortal Kombat 2 source code contains almost all of the game’s data, including sprites, sounds, backgrounds, animations, and more. It is likely that all this will loosen the hands of Modders, who will now have even more options to create unique mods for the game and port them to different platforms.

YouTuber nicknamed TehDrewsus recorded a video showing how he digs into the source code.

Another enthusiast with the nickname Pegasus child began to post on social networks all the interesting finds he found in the source code.

This is what we found:

• New animations, unused fatalities and Johnny Cage style combos Mortal Kombat 3;
• Knee (Johnny Cage) from first Deadly Struggle;
• Animation (Johnny Cage) titled “PPunch”. It’s probably some kind of canceled special move or part of a combo;
• New elements for arenas;
• Terracotta soldiers in original quality;
• Shao Kahn’s big arm from the death gash where he placed it in the portal and it came out the top of the screen;
• Cut elements of the Kung Lao combo;
• Photo of a person swimming on a beach named MKVOG;
• Palette Scorpio with blue skin;
• Spit Sub-Zero;
• Jax’s kick in the air, which appeared later in the trilogy;
• Walking Animals Kintaro;
• New animations by Liu Kang (“Backfist” and knee strike);
• Missing ninja sprite;
• Cut animation of Kitana, which was probably used for some fatal accident;
• New frames used in the spit and uppercut animations;
• Shang Tsung’s new slap;
• A cut animation of Raiden titled “Short Zap”. She was probably used for fatalities;
• Animation called “Tornado”. This probably has to do with Sub-Zero;
• The bloodied faces of the characters who fell victim to Johnny Cage’s fatal accident. Apparently this element was removed from the game due to excessive brutality;
• New elements for the Living Forest arena;
• Arenas from the first MK;
• Two cloud sprites;
• New thunder sprites;
• Unused “Wasteland” sprites;
• Unused effects of blood spatter.

Obviously, this is not the whole list of cut and unused materials, and therefore in the future MK fans will most likely find new things from the second part that did not appear in the release version of the project.
