The Minister of Culture and Sports, Michael Iceta, announced a cultural bonus for young people amounting to 400 euros. The promotion will go on sale from Monday, July 25.
Iceta presented the measure at a press conference held by the Ministry of Culture and Sports on Thursday, July 21, explaining that all young people who will turn 18 in 2022 on the coming Monday will be eligible to register for the voucher. The goal is to support access to cultural products and services.
Viewed as a cultural fund the Youth Culture Bonus acts like a wallet card that allows recipients to allocate 400 euros toward cultural events and products over a year. The 400 euros are distributed across three segments: 200 euros for live cultural experiences, 100 euros for physical cultural consumption such as books, and 100 euros for digital cultural products.
Last Monday the minister confirmed the participation of all state museums in the Youth Culture Bonus, emphasizing the program’s aim to spark a genuine interest in culture among 18-year-olds and ensure they do not miss out on cultural access.
Previous steps
Head of Government Pedro Sánchez announced the Youth Culture Jackpot at the start of October last year. He noted that the General Budgets of the State would include this bonus for Spaniards turning 18, with the purpose of bringing them closer to Spanish culture and supporting the cultural industry in tandem.
Following the Royal Decree that governs the Youth Cultural Bonus, the Ministry of Culture and Sport has been working on the implementation framework. In June, a key procedural decision was made to lay down the rules for execution and to designate Correos y Telegrafos as the financial vehicle for the Youth Culture Bonus program.
With nationwide reach, Correos y Telegrafos will oversee the delivery and administration of the payment method for the Youth Culture Bonus 2022 aid scheme, ensuring accessibility across regions and smooth operation for beneficiaries.
