The Generalitat Valenciana has approved a total of 6.5 million euros to be distributed in annual installments across 2023, 2024, and 2025. This funding supports the audiovisual sector in the Valencian Community with the goal of boosting industry activity and creating jobs. The grants, which become available starting tomorrow, July 14, will be administered through a new economic model for the regional audiovisual landscape, as outlined by the regional council led by Ximo Puig.
The Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society published in the Official Journal of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) the regulations that set out the bases for financing production and post-production projects of cinematographic and audiovisual works, whether national or international, when the expenditure occurs within the Valencian Community.
Grants are awarded per project. A film or audiovisual work may be supported for a maximum of two projects per production company. The grant amount is tied to eligible local expenditures on Valencian soil, with a minimum spend within the Community and meeting the density requirements established by the foundations. The cap for a single production is set at 1.5 million euros.
Production companies that create cinematographic works or national or foreign audiovisual projects that contribute to Valencia’s economy and to local employment, including post-production, will be eligible for these aids. The financing requires a minimum of 2 million euros in spending within the Valencian Community and a total production budget of more than 4 million euros.
According to Brussels, a statutory aid system has returned to the Generalitat after the European Commission ended oversight of the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante last year following concerns about subsidies that could distort competition.

The deadline for submitting applications is 30 calendar days from the publication date in the DOGV, expiring on August 12. A single application can be filed per audiovisual project through the Generalitat Valenciana’s electronic headquarters. Prospective applicants should review the bases and begin the process through the innovation portal of the Generalitat Valenciana. A summary of the procedure is provided by the regional authorities as part of the official grant framework, with guidance and support for interested producers. (Fuente: Generalitat Valenciana)
Ciudad de la Luz had eagerly awaited this call, as several projects were ready to proceed and negotiations with Alicante studios were close to finalization. Among the anticipated projects is the next feature by Alejandro Amenábar, who visited the complex in June to explore filming opportunities. Amenábar’s team has indicated plans to shoot the project there, as production considerations look favorable in the region. The studio’s role in the broader narrative includes involvement in ongoing series and international film work, including collaborations that bring together talents from Spain and abroad. Current discussions place Valencia as a hub for high-profile productions, with the region looking to leverage local talent, crews, and facilities to attract international projects. The new funding round aims to strengthen the local economy by sustaining jobs, fostering post-production capacity, and encouraging sustained investment in creative infrastructure.
