Ciudad de la Luz has installed a replica of the Goya Awards statuette at its entrance, towering over two meters in height. The display marks a notable tribute during the thirty-sixth anniversary of the premiere held in the Turia city and signals Valencia as a hub of cinematic celebration in the region.
Sergio Tarreroone is the artist behind this striking sculpture, one of twelve giant reproductions commissioned by a collaborative effort between the Valencia City Council and the City Hall Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The project accompanied the awards when they were presented in public spaces around Valencia, an event that took place last February and drew crowds curious to see the celebrated statuette up close.
Today, the thematic energy behind the installation continues to resonate within the community. The initiative, carried out by the Community Thematic Projects Community, aimed to bring residents nearer to the ceremony while highlighting the vitality of the local arts scene. Its success prompted organizers to reassess how the works might travel and be shared with even more audiences across the city and region.
As part of the outcome, four of the twelve works were formally donated to key cultural institutions and partners. The recipients include the Film Academy itself, the Valencia Fallas Artists Guild, the Valencia Cultural Institute for the Film Library, and the Alicante film studios that selected the project as a featured entry point for public appreciation of cinema. Each recipient now holds a tangible reminder of Valencia’s role in the film industry and its ongoing commitment to celebrating artistic achievement in public spaces.

The effort is supported by the Thematic Projects Association, an entity affiliated with the Generalitat Valenciana. This organization oversees the management of local film studios and, through its collaboration with the association, the initiative sought to present reproductions as a visible symbol of the cultural sector’s resilience and commitment to the arts in Valencia. The decision to host the replicas underscores a broader strategy to foster creative dialogue between citizens and the cinematic arts, ensuring that cultural landmarks become accessible touchstones for residents and visitors alike. In this context, the project also highlights how regional governments can partner with artistic groups to sustain momentum for local talent and public engagement in cultural events.
