Update on the case involving a transgender blogger
A transgender blogger identified as Hilmie Forks has received a sentence of 12 days in jail after behavior deemed erratic following a scuffle inside a fast-food restaurant named Tasty. The information came from Forks’ attorney, Konstantin Erokhin, via a telegraphic channel release.
According to Erokhin, a wave of shock spread among observers, and an appeal is planned. The defense argues that Forks acted in self-defense during the incident and contends that the arrest warrant issued at the time was not appropriate.
On the morning of July 14, Erokhin released a comprehensive article detailing recent developments in Forks’ affairs, noting that in addition to three administrative cases, authorities also filed a criminal case against the blogger. Forks received a written obligation not to leave the country as part of a pre-trial measure.
The lawyer described what he views as ongoing pressure and rights violations against the young individual. He stated that Forks experiences fear and distress and that there is uncertainty about what will unfold in the near future.
Earlier, on June 13, the Simonovsky Court in Moscow conducted another hearing related to the Forks case and imposed a fine. The following day, news emerged from the Safe Internet League that Forks had been detained in Moscow on suspicions of engaging in a public demonstration and distributing pornographic material. A criminal case was opened in connection with these events, and Forks was placed under a written commitment not to depart from the city.
Forks later appeared in a video shared on social media, apologizing for the confrontation. In the message, Forks acknowledged responsibility for the actions and urged followers to reflect on their mistakes and learn from them rather than repeating them.
In a related development, the State Duma recently approved legislation concerning gender reassignment in its third reading, highlighting ongoing discourse around gender identity and related rights within the legal system.
