Alicante University Cultural Service announces the registration window for four new cultural workshops set for the second semester of the academic year. The sessions cover audio description, theatrical improvisation, discovering the clown within, and radio storytelling. Most sessions will be conducted in person, with audio description delivered online for remote participants.

University of Alicante is the most transparent university in Spain

The first workshop introduces Audio Commentary, offering both theoretical foundations and practical skills for this service. This program, starting on February 13, is designed to help blind and partially sighted individuals access audiovisual content by translating visual information into descriptive words. The course spans 30 hours across 12 sessions and is taught by Blanca Arias, Irene Hermosa, and Gonzalo Iturregui, who bring extensive experience in accessibility and media literacy.

On March 1, a workshop titled Voicing Stories for Radio will guide participants in exploring personal voice and interpretive technique to craft a compelling radio narrative. The program aims to equip attendees with the essential tools to record a story for broadcast. It comprises 15 hours divided into five sessions and is led by Begoña Tenés, whose work focuses on voice, storytelling, and audio production.

The workshop led by Miryam Villalobos, Theatrical Improvisation, runs for 30 hours over eight sessions from March 16 to March 24. Improvisation is framed as a vital skill for living fully and engaging in the performing arts. It emphasizes listening, creativity, and spontaneous reaction without reliance on prepared scripts. Through improvisation, participants build confidence to respond in the moment, reduce fear of mistakes, and cultivate authentic expression.

The theater improvisation workshop will occur between March 16 and March 24. Information

The final offering, Discover the Clown Within Us, is instructed by Susana Giner from May 26 to May 28, totaling 15 hours across four sessions. Giner explains that the course centers on allowing the clown inside to emerge, enabling playful, authentic communication with others. The experience invites participants to observe and relate to one another from new perspectives, turning clowning into an adventure that is both entertaining and liberating. It is accessible to everyone, whether or not they have a theater background.

Registration fees

Fees vary depending on whether applicants are university members or not. Courses with more ECTS credits carry higher prices. The audio description workshop costs 70 euros for UA students or alumni and 90 euros for external applicants, and it provides 3 ECTS credits. The theatrical improvisation workshop, taught by Miryam Villalobos, has the same pricing structure. The radio storytelling workshop is priced at 50 euros for university students and graduates, 65 euros for non-UA participants, and offers 1.5 ECTS credits for the full course. Finally, the clown discovery workshop carries a lower price range of 35 to 45 euros, with the exact amount depending on the applicant’s UA affiliation. The program is designed to be inclusive while delivering meaningful educational credit where applicable.
