Two Cannes Highlights Debut at Moscow’s Khudozhestvenny Cinema
Moscow’s Khudozhestvenny cinema is set to host a Russian premiere event featuring two Cannes Film Festival selections. The screenings mark the first public showings for local audiences and are organized in collaboration with selected distribution and creative partners.
One premiere is a drama titled Return to Seoul. This feature, directed by Davi Chow who was born in Korea, premiered at Cannes in 2022. The program under which it is presented is a recognized side section of the festival known for presenting distinct cinematic voices. The film follows a 25 year old French woman of Korean heritage who travels from Paris to Seoul for a short visit. Her name is Freddie, and the narrative follows her encounters with her birth parents and the surprising adventures the city has in store for her as she navigates a sense of belonging and identity across continents.
On the following day, the audience will be treated to Stars at Noon, a romantic thriller from 2022 directed by Claire Denis and featuring Margaret Qualley in a lead role. The screening is presented in collaboration with creative association Arthouse Artistic. The film explores a relationship forged in tension amid a politically charged environment, delivering a tense mood paired with a landscapes of seaside settings that heighten the emotional stakes for the central couple.
In addition to these premieres, a retrospective program of Sergei Solovyov works will be shown as part of the event, offering viewers a broader panorama of Russian cinema history and the evolution of film language across decades. This combination of contemporary premieres and archival showcases aims to provide audiences with a curated experience that spans both new cinematic voices and classic contributions to the field.
