The Tretyakov Gallery is planning a dedicated museum space dedicated to Moscow collectors, to be housed in the estate of entrepreneur Stepan Ryabushinsky. This development comes as a formal update from Moscow’s cultural authorities.

The historic building, which previously did not serve as a museum, was transferred to the Tretyakov Gallery’s operational management in 2018. Deputy General Director for the Development of New Museum Spaces, Tatyana Gafar, indicated that the restoration plan is complete and ready for the next phase. She emphasized that the project centers on 19th and early 20th century collectors who shaped Moscow’s cultural life, presenting these figures as influential leaders of their era. The initial emergency stabilization work has already been completed, setting the stage for more extensive work ahead.

Plans call for a collectors club to be established within the museum. Gafar described a layered narrative: on the first floor, a historical storyline will be presented; on the second floor, contemporary collectors will be invited to display their works alongside historic pieces; and the attic on the top floor is envisioned as a space for a formal collectors club, creating a vibrant community hub within Malaya Nikitskaya.

Earlier reports noted exhibitions at the Tretyakov Gallery featuring the paintings of cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, illustrating the breadth of the gallery’s cultural engagement and its ongoing efforts to integrate historic and modern collecting narratives.
