The Royal Ballet presents Cinderella in a new production broadcast to Spanish cinemas
A fresh staging of Cinderella from the Royal Ballet will be shown live in Alicante at Yelmo Cines Puerta de Alicante and Kinépolis Plaza Mar, and in Torrevieja, Ondara, L’Alfàs del Pi, and Elche at ABC. The event will be transmitted directly via satellite on Wednesday, 12 April at 20:15 local time.
The Royal Ballet marks its 75th anniversary with a new Cinderella production inspired by Frederick Ashton. Ashton first brought the tale to life in 1948, with the Royal Ballet featuring star performers who defined a generation of dance. The original production lived on through celebrated performances by Moira Shearer and Michael Somes, whose interpretation helped establish Cinderella as a cornerstone of the company’s repertoire.
This updated version revisits the familiar story with a refined approach. The choreography intertwines Prokofiev’s unmistakable score with the Choreographer’s own musical sensibilities, delivering a performance that British critics have highlighted as a standout ballet of the year. The production is noted for its inventive reimagining while preserving the emotional core that has made Cinderella endure across decades.
Marianela Núñez appears in the title role, with the Royal Ballet showcasing its hallmark blend of technical precision and expressive storytelling. The casting reflects the company’s strongest artistic vision for this revival, bringing a contemporary freshness to a classic tale.
Following a long tradition of large-scale ballet cinema events, the Royal Opera House has stepped back into the limelight with a Covent Garden stage that has been refreshed by a creative team renowned for work across theatre, film, dance, and opera. This production is a co-pro collaboration with the National Ballet of Canada, and the film features principal dancers in leading parts. The cast includes Marianela Núñez alongside Vadim Muntagirov, whose performances are widely celebrated for their artistry and dynamic stage presence.
The live broadcast is set to reach more than 120 theaters in 90 locations across Spain, with screenings in 977 cinemas across 19 countries, extending the reach of the Royal Opera House presentation. In Spain, distribution is handled by Versión Digital, ensuring broad accessibility for ballet enthusiasts who want to experience this new interpretation of a beloved classic.
