In a candid interview with Vedomosti, Yuliana Slashcheva, chair of the board at Soyuzmultfilm, shared plans to revive beloved Soviet animation by reimagining its classics for a modern audience. She described a clear audience demand for familiar, cherished characters and confirmed that the studio is actively exploring new takes on these timeless figures.
Slashcheva emphasized that current efforts are centered on developing a pilot episode for a Cheburashka series. The project marks a shift from the traditional puppet animation of the original to 3D computer animation, signaling a fresh visual approach while keeping the character’s endearing essence intact. The studio will assess whether to expand into a full season based on how audiences respond to the pilot and the feature project’s reception.
Additional plans include the release of a full-length cartoon centered on Prostokvashino, expanding Soyuzmultfilm’s catalog with longer narratives that complement the new Cheburashka project and other reimagined classics.
Earlier reports also hinted at an upcoming short film inspired by The Littlest Dwarf, indicating a broader strategy to bring a range of familiar characters back to life in contemporary formats.
