Spanish hairdresser and stylist Luis Longeras has died at the age of 87. The cause of death was cancer.

Longeras was born on May 24, 1936. At the age of 14, Longeras began working as a hairdresser’s assistant at the prestigious Can Dalmau barber shop in Barcelona. In 1958, the first beauty salon opened under Longeras’ direction. Known for pushing the boundaries of the craft, Longeras is regarded as an innovator in the field. In 1972, the stylist opened Europe’s first unisex salon serving both men and women.

Longeras formed friendships and studied with the artist Salvador Dalí. A notable collaboration contributed to the creation of the world’s largest wig, which adorned the room dedicated to actress Mae West at the Dalí Theatre-Museum. The hairdresser also worked with high-profile figures including Sophia, Queen Consort of Greece, the Duchess of Alba, Spain, and actress Raquel Welch.

In addition to hairdressing, Longeras authored numerous books on photography, painting, and sculpture, showcasing a wide array of artistic interests alongside the craft of styling hair.
