The filming of Roman Fokin’s series Rector, featuring Vladimir Kanukhin known for Millionaire from Balashikha and Cicadas, has wrapped in Moscow, according to the Premier platform’s press service.
Recording began in the early part of autumn and spanned nearly two months. Most scenes were shot at MISiS University of Science and Technology, which serves as the academic setting for the series and doubles as the scientific institute where the lead character studies.
The central figure is Lavrentiy Semenovich Timoshin, also called Lavrik. He is a young, promising, yet highly anxious candidate of science who is working on a cure for fear. His insecurities extend from his mother’s disapproval to the upheavals at his research institute. A dramatic turn comes when Lavrik is compelled to assume the role of rector.
We have dedicated a long period to developing this project and have now reached the final filming phase. The shoot was intense over two months, with every actor and crew member giving their best. The result is a series that blends humor with timely commentary while also weaving in a compelling love story. The production team hopes the young rector will captivate audiences across platforms.
The eight episode series is slated to debut on Premier in spring 2024. The project is produced by Otkritie Studio of Creative Initiatives with support from the Internet Development Institute, a national public funding agency. The team has emphasized collaboration with key educational and cultural partners to ensure a thoughtful portrayal of academic life and leadership transitions.
Previously, Kanukhin took on a role portraying a young version of a political figure in a biopic that drew attention within the industry.
