The Rachmaninov Festival is planned in the Komi Republic, with confirmation reported by TASS. The event aims to honor the composer’s enduring influence and bring classical music to a broad audience in the region.
From April 3 to 5, the Republic Philharmonic Orchestra will host a series of performances to accompany the commemorations of Sergei Rachmaninov’s 150th birthday. Renowned pianist Arseniy Tarasevich-Nikolaev will present a recital that showcases pieces associated with the composer’s most intimate emotions, including Elegy, Prelude, and Polishinelle. In addition to the concert, the artist will conduct two master classes for students in Syktyvkar, offering young musicians a rare chance to study with a leading performer.
As part of the festival, the Kazan Chamber Orchestra La Primavera will present a major concert titled In Memory of the Great Artist, a program designed to celebrate the artistry and lasting legacy of Rachmaninov.
On April 1, music schools in Krasnozatonsky, Nizhny Odes and Inta will participate in the Rachmaninov Everywhere project, hosting master classes, lectures, and concerts that spread across the city and engage local audiences with the composer’s remarkable body of work.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism and Archival Affairs of Komi Maria Balmastova reflected on the festival, describing Rachmaninov’s legacy as a vibrant world that embodies the spirit of real Russian classical music. She noted that celebrating the 150th birthday offers an opportunity for people to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the composer’s contributions.
Earlier reports indicated that an exhibition in Rome was opened to mark the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff, underscoring the global reach of the composer’s influence and the ongoing interest in his life and music.
