a photographer and writer from a town in spain presents a new conference this wednesday as part of the loop PhotoSoul: history’s great photographers inside ua’s headquarters in alicante and in collaboration with the photoalicante festival. an american photographer is the chosen author for the tonight’s talk. when the photo claims to be real, the event will take place on wednesday may 10, 20:15 in the miguel hernández room of ua’s alicante town university space (ramón y cajal, 4).
“i don’t photograph moments that are in my head; i have moments and they become images. i thought i wouldn’t lose anyone if i took enough pictures. yet my photos show me how much i have lost.” this reflection comes from the north american photographer and anchors what calvo will discuss.
This cycle aims to approach the public through a speaking colloquium with some of the most prominent image artists, male and female, who have helped write the history of photography. during the event, a short video will be projected with about fifty standout works from the session’s hero, followed by a discussion with the audience.
The cycle began two months ago with a master of photography followed by another influential figure; future sessions will feature additional luminaries and their enduring contributions. a session focusing on the later guest is scheduled for may 24.
“the four of them own original photographic works crafted with great skill,” notes a long-time photographer, writer and lecturer who has contributed to a national information supplement since the early 1970s. his career includes exhibitions in galleries, museums and art centers across madrid, barcelona, valencia, girona, and san sebastián, among other spanish locales. his work also appears in impressive museum collections such as ivam, the charleroi museum of photography in belgium, photomuseum in san sebastián, and a private collection in new york, with institutions at the university of southern colorad o in the united states, gravina museum of fine arts, and many more.
