Valencian directors Guillermo and Javier Polo are rolling through Petrer with their debut feature, a road movie titled Poor Devil. The project follows the characters on a winding journey that reveals landscapes, people, and choices along the way.
Petrer aims to be a Hollywood scene
The Lawless City and Camino Viejo street in Elda provided the backdrop for filming last month. In July, the Polo brothers were already scouting locations in Petrer. Costa Banca Films Commission, a cinema office created by the Diputación de Alicante, aims to streamline the process for filmmakers who want to shoot in the city and supports the audiovisual sector with practical guidance and resources.
To save the Lawless City
David Morcillo, member of the Economic Development and Tourism Council, called the project the first film to be shot in an urban setting and a major milestone for the city. The mayor expressed gratitude to Costa Blanca Films, the Ciudad sin Ley production, and the Local Police, who will coordinate traffic and safety during the days of filming, which will involve well known actors.
On the movie itself, Morcillo gave context about the project. He noted that this production marks the most ambitious venture yet from the Los Hermanos Polo company, which has earned recognition for short films and has produced two feature length documentaries shown around the world.
Take off shots
The Petrer shoot carries the working title Pobre Diablo. The project enjoys support from key cultural and industry partners, including Art and Culture, the Valencian Public Entity, and the Valencia Pitch Forum. It is connected to the Malaga Festival, the Music Library and SFX Synchro award programs at the Canary Islands International Film Market, and the second round of recognition at the Austin Film Festival. It is highlighted by selections such as Pithbox 5 from Filmarket Hub and the first Cinema Jove Co-Production Forum.
