The lawyer for Nikita Kologrivoy, Andrei Zhukov, conveyed to socialbites.ca that he was satisfied with the court’s decision not to extend the detention period from seven to fifteen days. Zhukov noted that, in many similar cases, detention ranges from three to five days, but the public outcry surrounding this particular incident influenced the outcome in a way that led to a longer pretrial period.
Zhukov explained that a balance was struck between Nikita’s interests and the public concern. He argued that the penalty of seven days is somewhat longer than what is typically seen in comparable cases. He did not accuse the court of bias; rather, he suggested that public reactions played a role in the process by supporting a slightly longer hold. During preparations for the case, he said, he reviewed nearly a hundred court decisions in this category, which generally indicate a 3-5 day detention. Given the surrounding circumstances, Zhukov stated that the decision not to object was appropriate and prudent.
The attorney also mentioned that Nikita Kologrivoy had not voiced any complaints to him about his time in the pre-trial detention facility.
Zhukov stated that he visits his client almost every day and that there have been no complaints raised by Nikita during those visits. He added that discussions about the detention conditions were not a focal point of their conversations, reinforcing the idea that the situation was not actively disputed by the defense at that stage.
On March 22, the Novosibirsk Regional Court upheld the seven-day detention order for the actor on charges of rowdy conduct within a hookah bar.
