Nikita Efremov opened up about his long road to recovery, revealing that overcoming drugs and alcohol came only after he reached an emotional low point. He discussed this candidly in an interview conducted by Svetlana Bondarchuk.
“I tried every tactic I could think of. I told myself I would buy a car, then quit, get married and walk away, land a role and only then quit for good. I even consulted psychologists. But the crucial moment was the emotional bottom when I finally admitted I was not the best manager of my own life,” the actor shared.
Efremov emphasized that simple self-control strategies failed for him. The mindset of just picking up and letting go did not work:
“You break down, then you berate yourself for losing control. I did not want to face the fact that the addiction was stronger than me and that help was needed.”
The 34 year old performer added that recognizing personal weakness became a turning point in addressing his addictions.
He urged others to shift from blaming circumstances to acknowledging a life that had spiraled out of balance, noting that true progress starts with acknowledging the problem and seeking the necessary support.
Efremov has previously spoken about childhood trauma, sharing that past experiences played a role in shaping his struggles. This context has informed his ongoing commitment to recovery and personal growth. [interview attribution]
