Nicholas Coster was born December 3, 1933, in London. His mother was American and his father, a New Zealand theatre critic and sailor, influenced his early life before the family spent much of Costers youth in California. To pursue acting, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in England, performing at venues such as Londonfs Broadway and Victoria Theatre, where he shared the stage with distinguished names including Elizabeth Taylor.

Coster launched his television career with NBC in the soap Young Doctor Malone, which ran from 1958 to 1963. He later appeared in Hidden Storm in 1964 and again from 1967 to 1968. His most enduring fame came from Santa Barbara, where he appeared in two stretches, first from 1984 to 1988 and again from 1990 to 1993.
