New Prado Additions Elevate Asturias Fine Arts Collection

Fine Arts Museum Asturias Eight artifacts forming the new filling in the region Prado National Museum. A series of works that deliver a significant upgrade to the collection, according to the director of the major regional gallery who spoke yesterday about how these pieces close several gaps.

At the unveiling of this new addition yesterday, senior regional cultural officials attended along with the Prado General Conservation Coordinator and the Deposit Service Manager, who represented the national institution in the ceremony.

With this new accumulation, the Prado holdings in the Fine Arts field now total 55 works. The latest entries include El mejor amigo, painted in 1899, by Antonio Menéndez, as well as seven additional paintings: Santa María Magdalena from the early 17th century attributed to Guido Color, Florinda by Jose Robles, Fruits painted in 1911 by Julia Alcayde, Ribera de Cudillero created between 1884 and 1885 by Thomas Campuzano, and An ecstasy of San Francisco along with To work and Gnomes alchemists dated 1888, circa 1908 and 1912 respectively, all associated with Luis Menéndez Pidal.

Eight works have already become part of the permanent Fine Arts collection, integrated in a cohesive display that the team led by Alfonso Palacio has organized. Each piece finds a respectful dialogue with neighboring works, a harmony highlighted by Berta Piñán who notes that the pieces seem to have returned to their rightful places. On behalf of Prado, Víctor Cageao emphasized the strong collaboration between the two galleries and the advantages of the Extended Prado program that facilitated the arrival of these deposits.
