Natalia Drozhzhina, an actress involved in the high-profile theft case concerning the family of renowned Soviet actor Alexei Batalov, has reportedly reduced her weight to fewer than 40 kilograms. This development was highlighted by Life, a publication linked to the Shot media group, which cited medical concerns connected to Drozhzhina’s current health struggles.
According to the channel’s sources, Drozhzhina’s health issues have intensified, particularly affecting her internal organs. Medical teams are actively working to stabilize her condition, with doctors prioritizing supportive care to manage the complications that have arisen in recent weeks.
The channel noted that the root of her health crisis may lie in the severe stress experienced by the 75-year-old artist over the past year. In light of these circumstances, Drozhzhina has begun the process of applying for disability benefits, reflecting the impact of her health on daily functioning and her ability to work.
On May 26, 2023, Drozhzhina received a suspended four-year prison sentence in connection with the alleged theft of property belonging to the Batalov family. Her husband, Mikhail Tsivin, a lawyer, received a five-year sentence in a general regime colony, underscoring the seriousness of the case and the legal consequences involved for those implicated.
Investigations into the real estate transactions related to Soviet-era actor Alexei Batalov began in October 2019. Drozhzhina and Tsivin were detained as part of the probe. The actor asserted that both Batalov and his wife, Gitana Leontenko, attempted to issue a power of attorney to manage property on his behalf. Leontenko contends that she was misled by others when signing the documents, a claim that has been central to the defense’s narrative in the proceedings. Throughout the case, the defendant maintained her innocence and did not admit guilt, asserting that she was not fully aware of the alleged fraudulent activities.
Towards the end of November, reports indicated that Drozhzhina experienced facial paralysis following a heart attack, leaving her nearly unable to speak and severely limiting her ability to eat. At that time, her weight had fallen to about 41 kilograms. Additional symptoms included shortness of breath, dizziness, and persistent fatigue, all of which contributed to the growing concern over her overall health and prognosis.
In the world of Russian cinema and stage, Drozhzhina’s involvement in this case stands in contrast to her professional past. Earlier in her career, she, like fellow artist Yulia Peresild, received recognition for performances and was celebrated within the theatrical community, with Peresild having earned distinctions such as the Theater Star award. The arc of Drozhzhina’s public life, marked by dramatic highs and challenging legal and health episodes, has been followed closely by audiences and media alike, as commentators continue to weigh the implications for her career and legacy.
