The Gravina Museum of Fine Arts in Alicante hosted the third international meeting of the European project MuseumNext, which focuses on promoting digitalization in small and medium museums by strengthening the role of the Digital Curator.
Participants included key institutions such as Alicante City Council, Patras University, Marche Polytechnic University, and partners addressing digital inertia, together with Marche Cultural Foundation and Narodni Museum Zadar. The collaboration received support from Crea 360º, complemented by guidelines for adopting and using digital technologies and the Digital Operational Plan entrusted to Mubag.
During the Alicante gathering, chaired by the museum director, Jorge Soler, attendees discussed the work of local groups and the design of innovative actions. Mubag outlined a pilot action that will evolve into a geolocation app to highlight exhibits, deepen knowledge about them, offer virtual visits, and broaden access to heritage for diverse audiences and community groups.
Presented as part of the Marche Cultura Foundation’s initiative, the collaboration with the Archaeological Museum and Via Flaminia includes a storytelling approach to narrate the story of each museum. Zadar National Museum representatives will participate in a playful activity to highlight some of the most representative works from its collection.
Mubag participates in a European museum digitization project
Participating cultural institutions will also manage and implement the European project and form the digital curator role, a crucial step toward advancing digitization. Mubag has planned a guided route coordinated by technician Mª Jose Gadea, to be delivered between 24 and 28 April. The main aim is to build digital skills among museum professionals in cataloging, conservation, resource management, and heritage promotion.

Julia Parra, Vice President of Culture, noted that participating in the European project offers insights into trends seen in other museums, new technologies, and digital resources. The program helps strengthen public engagement, cultural visibility, and fosters new cooperation with reference institutions. [CITATION: MuseumNext project communications]
This digital outreach is coordinated through the project platform, with Mubag playing an active role. The platform compiles all actions and ensures broader international exposure for all partners. [CITATION: Project communications]
The collaborative work will culminate next September with an event featuring the implemented pilot actions. The emphasis will be on the digital curator as a facilitator of heritage dissemination and as a mechanism to improve museum accessibility for local audiences and broader tourism contexts.
