This year the Generalitat Valenciana will back a new edition of the Mostra de Teatre de Alcoy, continuing a pattern seen in recent years. Specifically, the regional government will provide 150,000 euros to support the festival’s organization, the execution of scheduled activities, logistics, and other aspects tied to the development of this performing arts event. This commitment was disclosed by Consell officials on Friday, following the general meeting of the deputy executive director of Valencia.
At that meeting, an agreement between the Cultural Institute of Valencia (IVC) and the Alcoy City Council was signed. The document confirms that the Generalitat will allocate the aforementioned 150,000 euros for making the Mostra possible. Now in its 32nd year, the festival is slated to take place from 23 to 27 October. Although the event traditionally occurs in the spring, this edition has been postponed several months. The same sources reminded attendees that the festival consistently delivers high-quality scenic works and provides a dedicated space for meetings and exchanges among artists and professionals in the theatre sector.
Through this agreement, the Alcoy City Council commits to implementing the activity program, ensuring that eligible expenses are fully justified and that the IVC brand or logo is visible as a sponsor of activities. Additionally, to receive the subsidy, the council must demonstrate it has complied with all requirements—such as not being under any prohibitions and meeting the obligations established by the General Subsidies Act. The Cultural Institute of Valencia undertakes to contribute the amount specified in the agreement in a timely and transparent manner.
In May 2022, the most recent meeting revealed that 32 performances were presented in Alcoy, attracting around 250 industry professionals. The event drew twenty-nine companies from nine autonomous communities. While official attendance figures for the 2023 edition will be released later, it is known that several thousand spectators enjoyed the diverse proposals showcased at that year’s festival, painting a picture of a vibrant regional cultural scene that continues to grow and attract national attention. The collaboration between the public body and the local council underlines a continuing commitment to supporting the performing arts ecosystem in the Valencian Community and beyond, highlighting the role of public funding in sustaining quality theatre, artist exchanges, and audience development.
