The Alcoy Theater Performance stage productions in the Valencian Community are gearing up for a new edition of the Mostra, which opens next Monday, October 23, and was unveiled this Thursday. This long-running cultural event, now in its 32nd edition, will span most of the week, concluding on Friday the 27th, presenting a wide array of theatrical proposals in multiple formats to meet diverse audiences across six different city districts. All projects share a common thread: they originate from the surrounding local scene.
As explained by Miquel Santamaría, director of Mostra, and confirmed in the program, Of the 23 shows scheduled in Alcoy in these days, only one comes from outside the Valencian Community; that production hails from Catalonia and is connected to the festival through its cross-regional collaboration. Santamaría is, in effect, an integral part of the festival. He notes that the event has regained its original spirit as it reaffirms its commitment to local productions. Executives of the Circuit Teatral Valenciano venues are described as the backbone of the festival, underscoring a rich plurality of styles and artistic aims.
The festival’s organizers emphasize that Mostra continues to possess room for growth. Future expansion, however, will depend on the availability of resources and sustained support from public administrations. Abel Guarinos, Director General of the Valencian Institute of Culture, highlighted the event’s significance and its foundational role in launching the regional arts sector. He also announced that the Generalitat’s budget for Mostra will be increased, albeit modestly, signaling ongoing governmental backing for the festival. This year’s funding is set at 150,000 euros.
Elisa Guillem, a member of the Cultural Council and the first to address Mostra as the leading political figure responsible for the initiative, congratulated the festival and remarked on its importance for the city. She urged residents to embrace the experience and enjoy the diverse formats on offer. The opening reception will take place Monday at 19:45 at the Theater Manager, just before the Alcoyan company Consciousness brings the stage to life under the management of La Dependent.
