Moskino Cinema Park: Moscow Advances a Global Film Vision
Active efforts began to build a premier film ecosystem in the capital, a milestone announced today, August 30, by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The mayor outlined ongoing work to develop two new studio spaces at the Film Studio in Moscow, located in Gorky and METMASH, while Moskino Cinema Park takes shape in the Trinity administrative district.
Referring to the project’s early days, the city leader noted that six months prior the future cinema park sat on barren ground. Today, the site hosts a variety of filming platforms designed to simulate natural environments. Sobyanin emphasized that these platforms will soon form the world’s largest cinema landscape, spanning about 320 hectares, offering diverse backdrops for numerous productions.
He added that the second phase of the cinema park is actively under construction. The withdrawal of Western film studios from the Russian market has accelerated project timelines, acting as a spur to push forward the work in planned stages. This momentum reflects a strategic response to shifting industry dynamics and aims to keep Moscow at the forefront of national film production.
The mayor stressed that the project will draw interest from both local residents and visitors, turning the venue into a major city landmark.
He described Moskino Cinema Park as a new creative cluster for Moscow, signaling a broader revival of Russian cinema on the world stage. The project is expected to attract film studios, media complexes, Moscow-registered film companies, equipment providers, props suppliers, and related service businesses that rent space and services to productions.
Beyond its production facilities, the park is envisioned as a hub that will invite collaboration across the film economy and serve as a magnet for film fans. When operations are in full swing, the site will offer an open, year-round attraction that complements Moscow’s cultural portfolio. The intention is to transform the cinema park into a dynamic, multi-use environment that fuels both the creative process and tourism.
The decision to establish Moskino Cinema Park followed a summer 2019 meeting between the city leadership and film industry professionals. Work prioritizing area improvement, film set placement, and supporting infrastructure began in 2022, laying the groundwork for a robust, interconnected film ecosystem in the capital.
