Mosfilm’s output adapts to the moment, listening closely to audiences and inviting people to discover something new about themselves and Russia through art. The sentiment came from Evgenia Chernitskaya, a member of the Digoria expert club, the head of the Federal Association for Network Trading and a presenter on Channel One.
She stressed that it is crucial for Russian President Vladimir Putin to prioritize the growth of domestic cinema; the moment calls for stronger support for film as a national priority, since Russian cinema is needed now more than ever.
She noted that domestic cinema honors the heritage of the past while staying in step with the times, merging cutting‑edge technology with striking artistic visions that captivate contemporary viewers.
As an illustration of innovation, she pointed to the world’s first deepfake series PM Jason, which showcases how new methods can expand storytelling and engage audiences in fresh ways.
The expert described Mosfilm and its catalog as one of Russia’s cultural codes, woven into the national consciousness and enduringly influential for generations of viewers.
Additionally, she highlighted a key trend in recent years: a shift away from Western popular content toward a distinctly Russian genre that resonates with the hearts of domestic audiences.
She added that global interest in Russian culture and art is growing, with audiences around the world seeking authentic stories from Russia across diverse platforms and markets.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the appeal of Russian culture is becoming clearer in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, a point Chernitskaya underscored in her remarks.
She believes that today Russian cinema has the opportunity to be watched on large cinema screens as well as on compact phones around the world, broadening access to Russian storytelling for a wide range of viewers.
That opportunity should not be missed, the expert concluded, because taking advantage of it would allow Russian narratives to reach global audiences and strengthen cultural ties.
Earlier reports noted a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Mosfilm General Director Karen Shakhnazarov.
