Tatyana Mitkova, a well known TV presenter and the editor in chief of the NTV information service, has no plans to leave Russia. In a conversation on the YouTube channel Empathy Manuchi, she addressed the question of why she did not follow the example of some colleagues who chose to depart the country. Her answer was direct and rooted in her commitment to her work and the network she represents.
Mitkova explained that she does not see a reason to move abroad. She expressed a strong attachment to her job and to the team at NTV, emphasizing that she continues to value the workplace and the people she works with. When pressed about the possibility of working elsewhere, she stood by her current situation and underscored her professional satisfaction.
According to Mitkova, foreign travel for her stems from business engagements rather than a desire to relocate. She noted that her leisure time is often spent in Russia, and during the summer she enjoys visiting the Volga region with her husband, choosing familiar grounds for rest and relaxation. This personal preference reinforces her ongoing ties to the country where she has built her career.
In February 2023 Mitkova appeared on Canada’s sanctions list, a move that also affected a broader group of public and cultural figures from Russia. Ottawa sanctioned 16 legal entities and 38 individuals, including widely known performers such as Nikolai Baskov, Mikhail Boyarsky, and Oleg Gazmanov. In a subsequent interview with RIA News, Mitkova commented on the situation, suggesting that there were controversial elements in Canada’s actions and that the measures should be viewed within a broader geopolitical context.
Mitkova also commented on how the sanctions might influence her professional operations, suggesting that the response to restrictions could come with increased focus and effort. She indicated that the constraints would shape the work environment, potentially driving more careful planning and a renewed sense of purpose in her broadcasting activities.
Earlier statements by Sergei Zverev about the impact of sanctions on his business were part of the broader discussion surrounding the sanctions regime and its practical consequences for media professionals and cultural figures connected to Russia. The dialogue among public figures and lawmakers continues to reflect how sanctions intersect with media freedom, professional duties, and personal decisions in the current geopolitical landscape.
