Les Ones Festival Brings Contemporary Dance to Benidorm’s Streets

The streets of Benidorm will once again transform into a dynamic stage as the second edition of Les Ones unfolds from 30 June to 3 July, weaving performances through several city districts. The festival invites residents and visitors to experience eight distinct performances, complemented by hands-on workshops and master classes. On Wednesday afternoon, a preview will unfold with an exhibition featuring local dance academies at Plaza de los Reyes de España, offering a first look at the talent shaping the region’s dance scene. Coordinated by the Ministry of Culture, the festival seeks to elevate contemporary dance by bringing it directly into street life, making it accessible to everyone. Cultural leadership notes that Les Ones has broadened its footprint this year, increasing performances and adding supplementary events to engage audiences within the urban fabric of the city.

The official Les Ones program begins on 30 June with Alexandra Vucheva offering A Hug Without You at 20:30 in Elche Park. A half-hour later, Federica Fasano Company presents Fugants, initiating a sequence of performances that stretch into the evening. On 1 July, the dance program shifts to Plaça del Castell with Andromeda, a collaboration featuring Eduardo Ignacio Fizona and Lidia Lara at 20:30. At 21:00, Sympar Collective will explore themes of imitation and influence, inviting audiences to consider how presence is perceived on stage.

On the evening of Saturday, 2 July, the festival continues with a star-studded lineup that includes the Yo-yo performance by the star company at 21:00 in Plaça Sant Jaume, followed at 21:30 by an additional dance piece accompanied by a live music band in the same square. Les Ones concludes its public run on 3 July with Paula Serrano’s company presenting If You Seek Me You Will Find at 20:30, alongside We Are Not Eyes, Because You See Them, They Are Eyes Because They Look at You, a Cave Canem production that begins at 9:00 am.

Between performances, senior classes and workshops keep the educational thread alive. Federica Fasano leads The Unpredictable Body workshop, and a Cave Canem Company session runs in tandem with Paula Serrano’s pieces, expanding access and participation for attendees across age groups and skill levels.

A member of the Cultural Council underscored the festival’s purpose, saying it brings together renowned artists and bold proposals from both the Valencian Ensemble and Benidorm. The remark highlights the organizers’ belief that the event will spark public interest and stimulate broader curiosity about contemporary dance across the city.

As a lead-in to the main program, an exhibition will feature the Elemental Municipal Conservatory of Dance alongside the schools of Daniela Arnoldo, Pilar Segura, Rosa Martínez, and Maria at Plaza SSMM Reyes de España on Wednesday at 8:30 PM. Each school will present two proposals, offering a glimpse of upcoming talent and the region’s evolving choreographic voices. Jose Moya will moderate the discussions and help frame the performances for audiences who arrive early to explore the showcase.
