A multimedia exhibition centered on Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, titled War and Peace. Resurrected Pages, recently opened at the VDNKh complex in Moscow after being announced by RIA News in collaboration with the LN State Museum Tolstoy. The display resides in pavilion 61 and forms part of the international exhibition and forum named Russia. The project brings together history, literature, and cutting-edge technology to offer visitors a vivid narrative experience that bridges Tolstoy’s era with the present day.
The exhibition was conceived and brought to life by the creative studio MuseumMedia, led by Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Konov. The halls of pavilion 61 have been thoughtfully divided into 13 thematic sections, each mapping to specific chapters of the novel or to key moments in the author’s life. This layout guides visitors through a chronological and thematic journey, making Tolstoy’s universe tangible through curated scenes and carefully chosen objects.
Among the most striking innovations is the blend of classic storytelling with modern technology. A notable feature is a ball projection and an integrated optical lens system that creates multiple image shifts, a technique that adds depth and dynamism to the viewing experience. The creative team highlighted that these effects are integrated within a dedicated museum app, marking a first for the venue and offering an enhanced level of interactivity for attendees.
Curators leverage multimedia tools to revive the novel’s central figures and significant historical events. The result is a living interpretation of Tolstoy’s masterwork, inviting audiences to engage with the text in a new and immersive way. The project aims to illuminate the philosophical and social themes embedded in Tolstoy’s writing, transforming a traditional exhibition into an engaging, accessible event for diverse audiences.
According to Sergei Arhangelov, General Director of the State Museum LN Tolstoy, the Tolstoy Museum contributed scientific and historical accuracy to the project, while MuseumMedia took charge of the artistic concept and its practical realization. This collaboration is presented as a deliberate balance between scholarly rigor and imaginative presentation, ensuring that visitors receive both reliable context and a compelling sensory experience.
In related news, recent developments at the international Russia exhibition include the initiation of the Second Congress of the First Movement, signaling ongoing conversations about culture and its contemporary institutions. Political leaders have also underscored the importance of cultural funding and policy measures that support museums and the arts, recognizing their role in education and national identity.
