The performance of Konstantin Bogomolov’s production of Karamazovs was removed from the repertoire, according to representatives of the Moscow Art Theater Chekhov on VKontakte. The update was shared through the social platform by theatre officials who oversee productions in the company’s repertoire.
The decision came at the director’s request. Karamazovs last played on April 11 after a run that began in 2013. The Moscow Art Theater Chekhov describes the production as a milestone in Bogomolov’s career and a defining moment in the theater’s history, underscoring how the work resonated with audiences and artists alike.
The theatre expressed thanks to all the creators, participants and fans who helped give the play long, bright life and who engaged with its ideas and debates. A formal note of appreciation emphasized that the production contributed to a rich cultural dialogue within the arts community.
In February Bogomolov indicated that President Vladimir Putin had designated a victory themed focus for a new or ongoing project, and the director added that he would be glad to collaborate if a writer approached him to create something new.
He also pledged to consider how future projects might unfold in his role as a playwright, signaling continued involvement beyond this single production and a willingness to explore fresh artistic directions.
On February 21, Bogomolov attended the president’s remarks at the Future Technologies Forum, an annual Moscow event that has taken place since 2023, with this year’s gathering held February 20 to 21. The appearance placed the director within broader conversations about the intersection of technology, culture and public discourse.
