Juan Mayorga, born in Madrid in 1965, is widely regarded as a contemporary playwright who is already crossing boundaries beyond traditional categories. His work has become a staple of study in schools and a staple on stages around the world. A multifaceted artist, Mayorga writes, directs, founded the playwriting collective El Astillero and the company La Loca de la Casa, and helped establish the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts. In 2007 he received the National Theater Award and in 2019 he joined the Royal Spanish Academy. Earlier this year he directed Teatro de La Abadía and the Corral de Comedias in Alcalá de Henares. A philosopher and mathematician by training, he is an honorary member of the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society and was honored with the 2022 Princess of Asturias Award in Literature.
