University Campus of Alicante to Host Presentation on Homelessness Imagery

On Friday evening at 8 o clock, the University Campus Ciudad de Alicante will host the presentation of a study titled Homeless People. Images and Imaginaries. The study was developed by sociologists Juan Antonio Roche and Juan Manuel Agulles and is based on a collection of photographs taken by Rafa Arjones, the head of Photography for INFORMACIÓN.

The study, which previously appeared in a Swiss social science journal titled Heliyon, examines how the public image of homelessness has evolved through two decades of visual work from 2002 to 2020. The findings suggest that the photographs published by Arjones in this newspaper contribute to a more complex view of this social issue while also offering a more empathetic and human portrait of those experiencing homelessness.

In the Friday event, attendees will include Juan Manuel Agulles, a sociology professor at the University of Alicante with a focus on urban sociology and social exclusion; Juan Antonio Roche, a professor of sociology of culture and the arts at the UA; and Rafa Arjones himself. The discussion will be moderated by the director of the newspaper hosting the event.

The entrance is free but limited by capacity. The gathering will be streamed live at the streaming link si.ua.es/es/videostreaming/seden.html
