Hercules Documentary: A Century of Myth on the Screen

Hercules, a century of myth and memory. This project, produced by the team behind Galipienso and other regional cinema efforts, is moving forward with support from the Hercules Foundation, the club, and the Centennial Commission for broadcast on regional television A Punt.

In collaboration with Manu Galipienso, and with John Gallonce as script author, the documentary idea was refined from its original concept. Galipienso, who previously collaborated with the network on an award-winning piece, presented the project to À Punt and received strong backing. The project stems from an Alicante production company and expands on previous works featuring Animals, midway, and the documentary series La Maskletà.

The Study Center venue hosted the filming, including interviews with specialists such as Josep Miquel García, Luis Javier Hernández, and Ramón Pérez. The team notes that no prior audio-visual production has taken place since the center closed; now an Alicante company is capturing a documentary film to launch this new phase. The experience is described as remarkable, with filming sensations that rival cinema.

Several scenes were shot outside the Study Center, including at Rico Perez Stadium where a drone captures the sky. The production also features children engaging with the club and historical figures, all staged outdoors in Alicante beginning on the fifteenth of the month.

The documentary traces the club from its origins as a blue and white team formed in 1922, through a modern red and white identity, weaving in both images and testimonies from historians, players, coaches, and the current president, Carlos Parody. The narrative begins with origins and carries analysis through decades, especially from the 1960s onward.

Among the club’s historical figures highlighted are Ramón Balasch, Juan Manuel Cartagena, Pepe Kstudic, Juan Antonio Carcelén, Paco Peña, Sergio Fernández, Quique Hernández, Paquito Escudero, José Antonio Palomino, Manolo Jiménez, Pascual Luna Parra, Teo Rastrojo, and Javier Portillo. The documentary also includes Andrea Pinero, a member of the Hercules women’s team in the early 1970s.

Hercules, a hundred-year-old myth, is slated for release in October to align with the council centennial date. The plan is to premiere in cinemas first and then screen on À Punt. The producer notes a similar approach with Amidway Animals, aiming to blend cinematic flair with accessibility for football fans and general audiences seeking a cinematic perspective.

The next project centers on cinema, with plans to shoot a feature in the City of Light studios in March of the coming year. Pau Dura and Luis Callejo are set to star, with a screenplay by Juan Galonce. The fiction centers on a political conspiracy in a town hall, a project for which À Punt has already secured pre-purchased rights.
