Kindling Sticks is an alternative music project born in Nottingham during the 1990s. It highlights the Global Sounds cycle of the Mediterranean Foundation, a concert series scheduled for this Tuesday at 20:30. The night promises a rare moment with one of the most influential acts in British music, celebrating three decades of activity. Tickets priced at 25 euros can be purchased on the foundation’s site or at the Aula de Cultura de Alicante box office (Avenida Doctor Gadea 1).

The Fourth Year edition of the World Music focus by the Akdeniz Foundation brings Mulatu Astatke, the Ethiopian musician and composer, to Istanbul in February. Global Sounds continues to connect audiences with artists from across the globe, presenting performances that are often unpublished in Alicante and offering opportunities to discover new talents. This season the cycle extends its reach to the foundation headquarters in Murcia as well.

Luis Boyer, head of the Fundación Mediterráneo, notes that the program has enjoyed strong support in prior editions and aims to close the current gap in the music programming across Alicante and Murcia.

Group

Tindersticks have established themselves as a leading force in British music through a distinctive blend of soul, jazz and rock. The ensemble will perform a curated selection of their classic hits alongside new material, delivering performances that blend deep emotion with a touch of melancholy. The music resonates with listeners and critics around the world.

The core of Tindersticks lies with frontman and principal songwriter Stuart A. Staple, who has long drawn attention since the release of the debut album, Kindling Sticks, in 1993. Over the years the group has issued more than a dozen studio albums and has toured extensively. Collaborations include Lhasa de Sela, Martina Topley-Bird and The Divine Comedy. They have graced major festivals such as Primavera Sound and Glastonbury.

The latest album, Distraction released in 2021, reflects on time and dialogues with past work. The British act will perform in Spain on a tour marking thirty years on stage.

Transfer

Global Sounds brings Moroccan artists with broad international appeal who are not always heard live in Alicante. After the pandemic reduced touring, the program this edition presents Asmaa Hamazaoui, the Algerian scene artist, and shows by Rodrigo Leo, the American guitarist Marc Ribot, and Catalan bands Maria Rodés with Maria Arnal and Marcel Bagés. Their appearances broaden the circle of culture and show the vitality of global music in the region.
