The former partner of ballerina Anastasia Volochkova, Sergei Kuznetsov, has had his detention extended by two months. This update comes from a source close to the case.
Kuznetsov remains in a pre-trial detention center on charges connected with an assault against his wife, Anastasia Kondrachuk. The case is being pursued under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code in Russia, which covers by bodily harm to a representative of the public authority or a person in service or otherwise protected by law, depending on the circumstances described by investigators and prosecutors.
On August 10, Kondrachuk sent a video message in which she appealed for her husband’s release from detention, expressing strong affection and a desire to restore their relationship. She asked for legal steps to be taken to allow the couple to reunite, and a lawyer representing Kondrachuk, Alexander Benkhin, attended the court proceedings on her side to present the argument for reconsideration or release as the case moved forward.
Earlier, on May 18, authorities announced the two-month detention period following allegations of violence against Kondrachuk. During the hearing, Kuznetsov stated that he did not attempt to flee the scene, that he personally escorted his wife to the hospital, and that he remained at the hospital for two days as a witness to the events. Kondrachuk reportedly acknowledged that the central trigger for the dispute was a string of letters sent to her by her ex-boyfriend, which seemed to exacerbate tensions between the spouses.
Volochkova has chosen not to involve herself in Kuznetsov’s case. She has indicated that she does not wish to be drawn into her ex-partner’s personal difficulties and has expressed that the matter is not a focus for her, even though communications between the two continue in some form.
In other entertainment news, a separate claim surfaced involving the Fast & Furious actor alleging a demand for compensation tied to an accusation of racism made by a hardware store owner. That matter appears unrelated to Kuznetsov, but it has been part of broader public attention around the same timeframe.
