The daughter of People’s Artist Alexander Filippenko revealed that her father obtained permission to pursue medical treatment abroad. Reports mention red blood cell concerns in connection with the procedure.
According to a published account, the actor has long used his platform to speak out against war. The daughter attributes his move to his outspoken stance and the related consequences he faced.
Filippenko’s daughter noted that in November the theater faced turmoil as well. The Moscow City Council chose not to renew his contract, leading the renowned artist to relocate to Vilnius for the time being.
Alexei Cherepnev, the theater director, corroborated the information for the publication, adding his own perspective on the situation.
“From what I understand, Alexander Georgievich has left for medical treatment. He is a guest artist, so his destination will be determined by his own choices,” Cherepnev stated.
Former theater director Alexander Molochnikov criticized the decision to cancel the final performance with actress Leah Akhedzhakova, calling the move upsetting for the troupe and the audience alike.
On February 8, Akhedzhakova confirmed that her participation in the play “The Gin Game” had been removed from the Sovremennik repertoire, marking a notable shift in the theater’s programming and leadership decisions.
