FeminArt: Second Edition Highlights and the Alicante Artist

A multidisciplinary artist from Alicante, Ines Villeparisis, was invited to participate in the second edition of a women’s art exhibition collective that brings together more than fifty artists from diverse origins and styles, all aimed at increasing visibility for women in the art world. The exhibition was organized by Est Art Space and took place in Alcobendas, a town near Madrid. It opened on a Wednesday at a spacious industrial venue covering more than 1,500 square meters and ran through January 28, 2023. (Source: Est Art Space)

Villeparisis stands out as the sole representative from Alicante at this gathering. She presented eight photographs from the series Fake Face Community, which began in 2019. The works feature vibrant characters, colorful masks, and elaborate costumes crafted by the artist. The series engages with social masking and the inertia of shielding oneself from a hostile environment, offering a muffled version of the self. (Source: Est Art Space)

The full title of the FeminArt exhibition is Halo! March is over, now what? and the curator notes that art made by women should not be confined to a single month. The artist from Alicante explains her roots with pride, while acknowledging that the exhibition includes male participants and explores themes related to women. The project emphasizes inclusivity and equality, showcasing a broad spectrum of creators and highlighting works that draw on women’s perspectives while inviting other artists to contribute through projects rooted in women’s experiences. Inclusivity and equality are guiding principles. The organizers choose to keep the individual identities of the artists confidential, inviting the public to engage by discovering who created each work. (Source: Est Art Space)

The Alicante-based artist had prior experience with the gallery Villeparisis, having participated in another photography exhibition at this same venue, White Balance. The FeminArt program culminates with a schedule of additional events, including a series of short films by women, conversations, roundtables, and performances that enrich the overall experience.
