A Russian public figure, Ekaterina Mizulina, who leads the Safe Internet League, has asked law enforcement to scrutinize several rappers for what is described as drug propaganda. She shared the appeal via her telegraph channel.

“In connection with the propaganda of narcotic substance use by the artists Kizaru, Qishlak, and Big Baby Tape, today appeals have been sent to the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Attorney General, requesting an official investigation,” Mizulina stated. She notes that many musicians now publicly distance themselves from what they consider provocative content and broadcast this shift to their audiences.

“Many reactions to these changes have labeled the artists as weak. In reality, this stance comes from a powerful individual who can make such declarations to their followers,” Mizulina commented. The public figure hopes that a forthcoming Russian bill will criminalize online drug sales and related promotion.

Over the past six weeks, Mizulina’s organization has indicated that a growing number of artists are violating the law by promoting drug use. Most of the discussions have taken place privately, behind closed doors. [Citation: Safe Internet League] [Citation: Law enforcement communications] [Citation: Public statements by Mizulina]”
