Approximately two weeks ago, reports emerged that Eduard Charlotte, a singer, sent a letter from a pre trial detention center addressed to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The information comes from a Telegram channel known as Baza, which has tracked the subject closely.
The letter expresses remorse and a willingness to atone. Charlotte notes that he has been continuing to work on patriotic compositions and would be prepared to perform them if he gains release from the detention center. The message projects an intent to engage in public or artistic activity once allowed to leave confinement.
At the close of June 2023, Charlotte burned his Russian passport and requested to be collected in Kiev. Later that year, on the night of November 22, the singer departed from Yerevan, where he had been residing temporarily, and traveled to St. Petersburg, landing at Pulkovo Airport. Upon arrival, authorities detained him. In November, the Leninsky District Court of Saint Petersburg ordered administrative responsibility for petty hooliganism, imposing a sanction related to disruptive conduct.
The singer was later detained by the Samara Kirovsky District Court on January 24, 2023. He faced two criminal investigations titled Rehabilitation of Nazism and Insulting the feelings of believers. The proceedings resulted in a sentence of six years imprisonment.
