Singer Eduard Charlotte faced a formal report to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office after burning a Russian passport and making provocative remarks about Russia on social networks. The reports linked to this situation were published by Life and referenced by Shot.
A complaint was filed with the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation by lawyer Vitaly Borodin. The complaint drew attention to a post by Charlotte on November 16 in which she spoke strongly against Russian-speaking people. The lawyer urged authorities to hold the musician accountable for incitement of hatred and degradation of human dignity under Article 282 of the criminal code.
The potential penalty under Russian law could reach up to five years in prison.
Eduard, aged 25 and hailing from Samara, had earlier stated during the summer that he did not consider himself a Russian citizen and that he planned to travel to Kiev. He subsequently traveled to Armenia and burned his Russian passport. After some time, he seemed to reconsider and appealed to his followers on social networks to contribute funds for a return ticket to Russia. Earlier reports indicated that a participant in the program Songs on TNT had expressed a wish to return to his homeland to work on a new album, moving from Yerevan to St. Petersburg by train or air. He finally purchased a ticket to Saint Petersburg.
In related developments, media outlets reported a separate issue involving Vitaly Borodin, who faced questions about whether his professional status as a lawyer had been revoked due to ethical concerns. Borodin has been associated with public denunciations of well-known figures such as Alla Pugacheva, Valery Meladze, and Danila Kozlovsky, among others. A former colleague confirmed to socialbites.ca that Borodin had not yet acknowledged any loss of his legal status, and suggested that the claimed ethical violations did not automatically imply professional disqualification.
