Samara District Court Extends Detention of Singer Eduard Charlotte
The Samara Kirovsky District Court has extended the detention period of the singer Eduard Charlotte, according to reports from RIA News. The court order keeps the artist in a pre-trial detention facility for the time being, with the extension set to last until late April.
Updates from early February indicate that Charlotte was moved from the Samara pre-trial detention center to Saratov for examinations. The move was planned to include psychological and psychiatric assessments linked to one of the ongoing criminal cases against the artist.
Legal sources have highlighted that Charlotte is suspected of having a bipolar personality disorder, a condition that can influence behavior. If the diagnosis is confirmed, it could lead to compulsory treatment as part of the legal process.
During 2023, while abroad, Charlotte posted several provocative clips online. One of the more talked-about videos showed the singer burning a Russian passport. After returning to the country in November, the artist was detained and later expressed remorse for the actions.
Presently, four criminal cases are being pursued in relation to Charlotte. The allegations include revival of Nazism, insulting the religious feelings of believers, and damage to documents. In late January 2024, prosecutors sought a two-month extension of the detention period as the investigations continued.
