Director Bronzit Announces Start of Luntik Sequel Production at Suzdalfest
The filmmaker Konstantin Bronzit spoke about the early stages of work on the feature-length continuation of the beloved animated series Luntik and his friends, sharing details at the Suzdalfest, the XXVIII Russian Animated Film Festival. According to Bronzit, the project is moving forward with a clear timeline and is expected to reach completion by the end of 2022, bringing a new chapter to the Luntik universe for fans in Russia and beyond.
The director recalled that the screenplay was crafted long ago in collaboration with animator Dima Vysotsky and animator Darina Schmidt. The team describes the envisioned film as an honest, child-friendly, and poignant tale about Luntik’s longing to return to the moon to reunite with his mother. Bronzit emphasized that the movie’s completion is the priority, while the timing of its release would be determined later as the production unfolds.
Bronzit also shared a creative note about the film’s genre, noting that it will be produced in a road movie style. This choice signals a journey-driven narrative that follows Luntik across varied landscapes, weaving between discovery and emotion as the character navigates new adventures along the way.
According to Bronzit, the film will maintain a balance between eerie moments and touching scenes, with the emotional anchor of Luntik’s desire to see his mother. He underscored that the events depicted in the story strive for a sense of realism within a fictional world, keeping audiences connected to the characters and their experiences throughout the journey.
Fans and industry observers are paying close attention to how the team marries the franchise’s familiar charm with the new cinematic scope. As production advances, expectations grow for a film that respects the series’ roots while expanding its emotional and visual horizons for a broader audience.”
